Deputy Director of the Institute for Educational Quality and Evaluation, Dr Milan Gromović, visited the Pedagogical Institute of Republika Srpska in Banja Luka, where a working meeting was held with the institution’s leadership.

The meeting took place at the premises of the Pedagogical Institute and was hosted by Director Slađana Tanasić. Heads of departments and expert staff also participated. Discussions focused on establishing and strengthening institutional cooperation, with an emphasis on concrete and applicable joint activities.

A key topic of the meeting was the improvement of the final exam concept (“mala matura”) in Republika Srpska. Through the exchange of experiences and approaches already implemented in the Republic of Serbia, opportunities were identified for further development and alignment of assessment systems that support better student preparation for the next level of education.

The participants also discussed upcoming training programmes for education advisers, teachers, school principals, and other employees within the education system of Republika Srpska. Continuous professional development was highlighted as an essential factor in improving teaching practices and overall education quality.

Particular attention was given to the planned joint development of a specialised teaching manual in the field of education. This resource will be developed through collaborative work and is expected to provide practical support to teachers and contribute to improving classroom practice.

In addition, cooperation was agreed on organising a joint professional conference focused on the application of PIRLS results in the teaching of Serbian language and literature. The conference is planned to bring together teachers from Republika Srpska and the Republic of Serbia, along with other education professionals, with the aim of translating research findings into practical teaching approaches.

Discussions also addressed the advancement of teaching through digitalisation and the use of educational platforms, as well as the challenges of dual education as a response to modern labour market needs. The Pedagogical Institute of Republika Srpska expressed strong interest in exchanging experiences in the implementation of dual education models and in establishing cooperation through practical steps.

This visit marks an important step in strengthening cooperation between institutions, with a shared objective of improving education quality, fostering knowledge exchange, and advancing modern approaches to teaching and learning.
