As part of the “Green Pedagogy” series of professional development events organized by the Pedagogical Institute of Vojvodina, the professional conference “Sustainable Development in Schools – Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence” was held on 18 November 2025. The Institute for Education Quality and Evaluation participated in the event with a presentation titled “Green Pedagogy and AI: The Intersection of Ethics, Education, and Technology.”
The presentation was focused on how modern technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), influence the transformation of the teaching process and what challenges, as well as opportunities, they bring to schools. Special emphasis was placed on the necessity of a paradigmatic shift in contemporary education—one that relies on the experience and expertise of teachers to design activities that develop critical thinking, creative reasoning, and functional knowledge, competencies that artificial intelligence cannot replace.
In the interactive part of the event, numerous examples of homework and classroom activities that AI can easily solve were analyzed, along with the risks such tasks pose for the development of student independence and the integrity of their work. Together with the participants, practical solutions and meaningful alternatives were proposed—tasks that require personal creativity, a local context, handwritten explanations of the problem-solving process, and learning through real problem-based situations.

It was emphasized that teachers are the key factor in creating a stimulating, safe, and ethically responsible environment for the use of digital tools and artificial intelligence. Their role is irreplaceable in fostering the responsible use of technology and ensuring that AI serves to enrich the process of knowledge construction, rather than replace it.
This event demonstrated that schools in Vojvodina are firmly committed to establishing and continuously improving sustainable and innovative practices, with a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities brought by the digital transformation of education. The cooperation between the Institute for Education Quality and Evaluation and the Pedagogical Institute of Vojvodina will continue in the years ahead.
