A delegation from the Institute for Education Quality and Evaluation took part in a meeting of national coordinators for the PIRLS study, held in Malta from 8 to 13 March 2026, alongside scoring training sessions.

The Institute was represented by Acting Director Prof. Dr Boris Stojkovski and the national PIRLS coordinator for Serbia, and  Deputy Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr Milan Gromović. The meeting focused on the next phases of implementation of this international study, which is currently being conducted in Serbia and in a further 61 countries or entities. Particular emphasis was placed on data collection, processing and comparability, with the aim of ensuring reliable analysis and presentation of results by the end of next year.

In parallel, training sessions for test scoring (scorers) were held. Representing the Institute, these were attended by Danijela Đukić, Assistant to the National Coordinator and Head of the Centre for International and National Assessments and Research, as well as MSc Tanja Trbojević. The training is essential for ensuring consistent and reliable assessment criteria of student achievement across all participating education systems.

On the margins of the event, the Institute’s delegation met with representatives of similar institutions from the region, Europe and beyond, exploring opportunities for further cooperation in the field of international educational assessments.

During their stay in Malta, the Institute’s leadership also met with Jelena Jablanov-Maksimović, President of the Serbian Educational and Cultural Centre “Saint Jelena of Anjou”. The Centre’s activities and supplementary schooling supported by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia were presented, and opportunities for cooperation with the Serbian diaspora in Malta in the field of education, as well as potential joint initiatives, were discussed.
