Eight-grade students in primary schools across Serbia sat the mock final exam on Friday, 27 March, and Saturday, 28 March, covering mathematics, mother tongue, and an elective subject. This two-day simulation of the final exam, known as the “mala matura”, represents a key step in preparing students for the official final exam scheduled for 15, 16, and 17 June. The simulation aims to assess students’ achievement levels while also strengthening the organisational and technical readiness of schools for the June exam.

Deputy Director of the Institute for Education Quality and Evaluation, Dr Milan Gromović, visited schools within the Novi Pazar School Administration, where, together with education advisors, he gained insight into the implementation process. During the visit, he toured Primary Schools “Rifat Burdžović Tršo” and “Bratstvo”, where it was noted that the mock final exam was organised systematically and in accordance with prescribed procedures.

“The mock final exam serves a dual purpose: to provide students with a realistic picture of their knowledge level, and to enable schools to assess their organisational readiness. Today’s observations confirm that the process is running smoothly, which provides a solid basis for the successful implementation of the final exam in June,” said Dr Gromović.

The Institute emphasises that cooperation with schools is of particular importance for improving the education system. In that context, further cooperation is planned with the schools within the Novi Pazar School Administration, especially in the areas of international assessments and training for self-evaluation. These activities will be implemented in cooperation with the local schools administration and aim to strengthen schools’ capacities to monitor and improve the quality of the education process.
