The Welsh Education and Training Inspectorate Estyn organised an international workshop, SICI Cymru 2026, titled “Navigating the AI Journey”, from 22 to 24 April in Cardiff Bay. This three-day event brought together more than 70 delegates from 25 countries who exchanged professional knowledge and experiences on the role of artificial intelligence in education.

As part of the programme, participants were presented with the results of a joint project carried out by the inspectorates of Wales, Norway, and Scotland, which explores how AI can support the work of external evaluators and enhance evaluation processes. Through a combination of keynote presentations, practical sessions and interactive workshops, participants examined the use of emerging technologies within education systems.

The main conference sessions were held at Techniquest in Cardiff Bay, which provided a dynamic environment for discussions on technological innovation and its impact on the quality of education.

The Institute for Education Quality and Evaluation was represented by Dr Elizabeta Karalić, Assistant Director of the Institute, and Jelena Nedeljković, Adviser. Their participation contributed to strengthening international cooperation and the exchange of practices in the field of evaluation and the application of AI tools in education.

The gathering in Cardiff confirmed the importance of joint learning and the development of standards that will ensure that artificial intelligence is used in a responsible, safe and pedagogically grounded manner.
