On 19-20 September 2025, the “Start the Future” conference was held at Ložionica in Belgrade, focusing on education, science, and innovation for a new era of teaching.
The Centre for the Promotion of Science and the organisation Youth Achievements in Serbia brought together teachers, experts and industry representatives with the aim of introducing educators to the latest advancements in fields such as biotechnology, artificial intelligence, creative industries, and smart agriculture.

As part of the programme, Katarina Aleksić, Head of the Centre for Educational Technology at the Institute for Education Quality and Evaluation, delivered a talk titled “Digital School – A Waking Dream.” She emphasised that innovative teachers are those who visibly connect the school with real life. These educators strategically select digital tools and thoughtfully balance the use of digital and analogue teaching methods, empowering pupils to develop digital literacy while continuously managing cognitive load.
Aleksić highlighted where, within the educational ecosystem, clear foundations for such innovative practice can be found, referencing relevant national and European legal provisions, strategic documents and measures of soft educational policy, such as the Digital Competence Framework – Teacher for the Digital Age.

She stressed that these documents and measures provide a reliable foundation that enables teachers to design and implement new approaches to teaching and learning, thereby creating a modern educational experience that guides pupils towards further education in science and future professions within the contexts of the contemporary world.
