During his research stay as a scholarship holder of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Professor Dr Boris Stojkovski, Acting Director of the Institute for Education Quality and Evaluation, visited the National Heritage Institute in Budapest. As part of the visit, a meeting was arranged with the General Director, Gábor Móczár and his colleagues. The two directors were in full agreement that the excellent political and overall relations between Serbia and Hungary provide vast opportunities for further cooperation in education, culture, and science.
As the coming year is marked by major anniversaries, discussions included the programme for commemorating 500 years since the Battle of Mohács, 570 years since the Defence of Belgrade, and the bicentenary of Matica Srpska, among other events. General Director of the National Heritage Institute, Gábor Móczár, emphasised that it would be of great importance for the Hungarian public to become more familiar with Serbian historical figures and cultural heritage, both of the Serbs in Hungary and more broadly.
A significant topic of discussion was the establishment of direct and concrete cooperation between IEQE and the National Heritage Institute in the field of the pedagogy of remembrance, which is one of the major projects of the Hungarian Institute.
Professor Dr Boris Stojkovski, Acting Director of IEQE, stressed that it would be of great importance for Hungarian pupils to gain a better understanding of Serbia, especially places significant to Hungarian history, and that through professional gatherings, training, and seminars, teachers from Hungary could also become acquainted with Serbian cultural heritage, Serbian-Hungarian ties, and sites in Serbia important to Hungarians. In this way, teachers and pupils in both countries could substantially enrich their knowledge and engage in particularly interesting extracurricular activities that would also strengthen cross-curricular competencies.
The host of the meeting, Director Gábor Móczár, underlined that major anniversaries, such as 500 years since the Battle of Mohács or 200 years of Matica Srpska, are an excellent opportunity for comprehensive cooperation at all levels.
