The acting director of the Institute for education quality and evaluation professor Boris Stojkovski, PhD was in Subotica on August 21 where he has visited Hungarian and Croatian national council. The visit was organized in the frame of the tour of all national councils of those communities that have finishing exams at the end of primary school in their own mother tongues. With the heads of these two institutions very successful meetings were held with fruitful conversations and outcomes.

In the Hungarian national council the director of IEQE professor Stojkovski was received by Árpád Fremond, the head of the Council with his associates. The meeting was very successful and further steps were arranged, not only among the heads of the two institutions but also on all other levels. During the meeting the importance of the cooperation of IEQE and national councils was particularly stressed to complete finishing exams as efficiently as possible. Of course, with a particular accent on the Hungarian national council and exams in the Hungarian language. The council itself represents one of the largest communities in Serbia. Topics of today’s meeting included, among others, the following subjects: translation of the finishing exams into the Hungarian language, the place of national history in the exam as well as other models of cooperation besides ones in the finishing exams. From both sides the desire to improve cooperation has been stressed, not only between Council and IEQE, but also with compatible institutions in Hungary. President of the Council Fremond stressed his own great pleasure that professor Stojkovski is a person who fully understands how important education on mother tongues of national communities in Serbia is. The acting director of the Institute for education quality and education, from his side, particularly emphasized that Hungarian national council will always have reliable partner in the IEQE, and that Council is an important link with Hungary.

Afterwards, acting director professor Stojkovski visited Hrvatski dom-Matica, the home of Croatian national council. He was received there by president of the Council Jasna Vojnić, as well as Nataša Francuz, the head of the Board of education of the Council, as well as Morena Rendulić, professor of Croatian language and coordinator of the professors of the Croatian language in Serbia. In a cordial and open meeting there were discussions on the finishing exam and tests in the Croatian language and the potential improvement on the work connected to the exams, as well as other means of cooperation between IEQE and Croatian national council. Particularly, the joint projects concerning education in Croatian in Serbia and vice versa, Serbian in Croatia, were emphasized as possibilities for the further cooperation. Besides that, possible collaboration with similar institutions in Croatia were also mentioned. Representatives of the Council have expressed their gratitude to IEQE for a successful ending of the new standards in education for mother tongues, including Croatian. The conclusion of the meeting was that the cooperation is a road to better education in Croatian language, as well as education as whole.
This visit to Subotica represents the beginning of series of meetings with the representatives of all national councils in Serbia which have education in their own mother tongues. It is only the first step towards more intensive cooperation in all fields dedicated to education in eight minority languages.
