Call for Schools to submit applications for the participation of primary classroom teachers in the seminar: 

Training for the Development and Evaluation of Mathematical and Scientific Literacy in the First Cycle of Primary Education

 

The Institute for Education Quality and Evaluation, within Programme Area 2 – Provision of Professional Support to Institutions in the Domains of Evaluation and Self-Evaluation, is implementing the project Training Teachers to Develop Competence in Teaching and Learning. 

The general aim of the project is to strengthen teachers’ pedagogical competencies to improve pupils’ educational outcomes, and to support schools’ self-evaluation processes in the domain of Teaching and Learning. As part of the project, a certified training programme has been developed and accredited: Training for the Development and Evaluation of Mathematical and Scientific Literacy in the First Cycle of Primary Education. 

Specific objectives of the training include: 

  • Enhancing teachers’ knowledge of the contemporary concept of mathematical and scientific literacy
  • Practising the structuring of curriculum content in relation to educational standards for the subjects of Mathematics and Nature and Society
  • Practising the formulation of achievement levels in relation to curriculum content and educational standards 
  • Improving teachers’ understanding of the characteristics of effective tasks (clear instructions, specific requirements, clarity, scoring criteria)
  • Practising the creation of tasks and combining tasks to assess different levels of mathematical and scientific literacy 
  • Evaluating and self-evaluating pupil achievement 
  • Exchanging good practices and disseminating results and materials via the Moodle platform. 

 

The training consists of preparatory work through a Moodle course, followed by an in-person workshop held on school premises, delivered by a certified facilitator. The seminar is free of charge, and participation carries 16 (professional development) points. 

 

General Information on Seminar Delivery 

In 2025, the seminar is scheduled to take place between 27 October and 30 November. In agreement with the school, the seminar will be delivered by certified facilitators from the Institute for Education Quality and Evaluation, who are employed as teachers in schools. 

By applying to this call, schools will have the opportunity to be selected for participation in the project and thereby: 

  • Enhance the competencies of 15 to 20 staff members in developing pupils’ mathematical and scientific literacy 
  • Improve the quality of work in the domains of Teaching and Learning and Pupil Support
  • Participate in the exchange of good practice with other schools 
  • Contribute to an initiative that will directly support the development of measures aimed at improving the quality of the education system.

Application deadline: 22 October 2025

The first 30 schools to apply will be selected to participate in the project.

The selected schools will be notified on time of the next steps via the school’s designated contact person.
