Within its remit, the Institute for Education Quality and Evaluation continues to support Serbian educational institutions in Kosovo and Metohija. As part of this work, representatives of the Institute participated on 25 September 2026 in the event ‘Teaching methodology – the key to quality education’, held for European Researchers’ Night at the Teacher Education Faculty in Prizren, temporarily based in Leposavić.
At the opening, the Institute’s Acting Director, Professor Boris Stojkovski, welcomed participants and thanked the hosts for their invitation. He emphasised that the Institute would always provide maximum support to educational institutions in Kosovo and Metohija and do its utmost to preserve the Serbian presence in our southern province.
Stojkovski and the Institute’s Assistant Director and Head of the Centre for Quality Assurance of Educational Institutions, Dr Elizabeta Karalić, took part in the round-table discussion ‘Mathematics textbooks for the lower grades of primary school: between teaching methodology standards and classroom reality’.
According to the organisers’ programme, the discussion aimed to bring together specialists in teaching methodology and primary school teachers to consider the quality of mathematics textbooks and their use in the lower grades of primary school.
The programme covered textbook design and the role of illustrations in learning, tasks adapted to students’ different levels of knowledge, and the use of digital textbooks. Dr Elizabeta Karalić highlighted the significance of applying the new student achievement standards. She also discussed the Institute’s cooperation with the mathematics community, particularly within the national programme for mathematical literacy.
Representatives of the Institute discussed opportunities for further cooperation with the Faculty’s Dean, Professor Vesna Minić, and Professor Branislav Ranđelović, Head of the Department of Teaching Methodology and Teaching Coordinator, who had previously served successfully as Director of the Institute for many years.
During the visit, a cooperation agreement between the Institute and the Faculty was agreed, and the involvement of teachers and schools in the Institute’s projects was considered. Further steps were also agreed towards closer links between Serbian educational institutions in Kosovo and Metohija, the Institute, and Serbia’s education system as a whole. The Institute’s representatives also received an invitation to visit schools in Kosovo and Metohija.
The event was held as part of European Researchers’ Night, organised by the University of Priština, temporarily based in Kosovska Mitrovica, within the broader EU-funded project Digital Bridges: Science, Media, Society (DiBS) (HORIZON-MSCA-2025-CITIZENS-01).
The Faculty’s programme included lectures, workshops and panel discussions on teaching methodology, pedagogy and special education, aimed at presenting scientific advances and examples of their application in education.
